CHARACTER INFO

Character: Velvet Crowe
Canon: Tales of Berseria, after fighting and nomming Melchior. CW: vore
Age: 19

Background Information: Berseria

Personality:
1) Tell us about who your character is and what someone’s first impression would be upon meeting them.
Velvet is a girl who has lost everything and it shows. That loss has turned her into a creature of anger and revenge, who takes what she wants, and could go through anyone who gets in her way. She has a tough exterior with a straight-man sense of humor, and a stubborn streak a mile-wide. Once she sets her mind to something, Velvet is going to do absolutely everything in her power to accomplish that. Not to say she won't bend if a more roundabout approach will get her to her goal, but someone will have to make a compelling argument when she isn't steeped and blinded in her anger. Even then, it isn't a sure bet to take.

Her first priority isn't even her own life, as she is willing to sacrifice it if it means she could get her revenge. However, Velvet is capable of getting attached to other people - this is shown when she randomly picks up a small child who barely has any will of his own. At first, her care is about as rough as she is as she gets frustrated and angry over his lack of will, yet it's clear there is still some concern when he ends up in a dangerous situation. Over the course of their time together, she gives him the same name as her brother, and treats him much more gently than the rest of the group. He is often the one to see the softer sides of her that still exists under her therion nature.

2) What is a driving force your character has? What goals do they have, what motivates them, etc?
All Velvet wants in life is to kill Artorius - the man who killed her brother. His betrayal is what led to her becoming corrupted by malevolence in the first place, and she fully intends to dig two graves at the end of her journal. However, this isn't what she was originally driven by. No, that was her love for her family - for a sick Laphi, and a loving brother-in-law Arthur. In a sense, this is still the ultimate reason she does anything, even now. She is a caring sister who has lost her way, and seeks to bring her brother's killer to justice, while looking out for the slightly dysfunctional family along the way.

Once Velvet makes attachments and learns more behind Artorius' plans, she does see even more reason to kill him. More than for just revenge (though it is still very predominant in her mind), is the mission to save the world from his plot to remove all malevolence and turn everyone into mindless beings. She is able to take a step back from her need for revenge to take necessary steps in preventing him or anyone else from accomplishing this. Going out of her way to rescue people she wouldn't have otherwise, fighting individuals she doesn't care about, ensuring they have done everything possible before Velvet finally can get her revenge.

3) What are their flaws as a character? What is something they've messed up, or have done that they regret?
Her anger might be driving her forward, but it's also her biggest flaw when it consumes her to the point of being stupidly reckless. Three years sitting in a cell to stew in this feeling and being bent on revenge has meant that Velvet threw herself into a fight where she didn't care if she got hurt or died. She just kept insisting that Laphicet should heal her so that Velvet could keep beating her head against an unbreakable opponent. At that moment, she didn't care for herself, and she didn't care about anyone else around her - only her revenge. Taking for granted all of the people that helped her get here, and their support and loyalty.

The other main flaw is her selfishness, which she readily admits to on multiple occasions. It also goes hand-in-hand with taking her little family for granted. Most of them accept that, since they are the type who also want to do things their own way, but a couple actually show concern about how she approaches a situation. It isn't that Velvet has lost all sense of her humanity, it's just that her goal is the most important thing to her, and she doesn't have time to hold the hand of everyone she's going to make upset. Getting attached means getting hurt again, so it's better to only look out for her own needs. For the most part. On occasion, Velvet is willing to go along with someone else when they have something they want or need to do. This might be a benefit to her own goal, but sometimes it means tagging along with someone from their little band of misfits.

4) Optional: What is something unique and interesting about them, or what is a fun little tidbit that sets them apart from the crowd?
Velvet does have a very slight and dark sense of humor which she typically directs towards Magilou. She takes pleasure in seeing her suffer at least a little bit, and often joins in when others are harassing the witch, too. Of course, Magilou is not the only target, just merely the most frequent. When the two of them attempted to take the stage, the witch tried to get Velvet to be her "straight-man" and told her to just be herself. She may not be a great comedian, but she does say funny things on occasion and can find something amusing, though it may be difficult to actually get her to laugh.

If there is something she truly enjoys doing it's cleaning and cooking. Actually, Velvet has such a particular way of cleaning that she won't let someone else do it because chances are they'll do it wrong by her standards, so it's quicker to do it herself. She has a great deal of pride in successfully cleaning and feels so much better having accomplished the task. Give her a dirty room and she will set out to clean it without any complaints. She also enjoys cooking and always has. While the actual task of cooking is enjoyable, her favorite part is seeing the look on people's faces when they eat it. This is basically all she has left of it these days, considering Velvet can no longer taste her own food, but she often asks Laphicet to be her taste taster, so the task itself isn't nearly as bad as it could have been.

Abilities & Inventory:
Daemon/Therion/Hellion:

Velvet is a human who was infected with daemonblight (later known as malevolence) after the death of her brother. While she retains her human form she actually isn't human anymore, these days she's considered a daemon (called hellions later). Her entire left arm is capable of transforming into a giant red and black, wicked looking thing with claws that exudes malevolence. Being a daemon grants Velvet extraordinary strength, which she has used both in battle and on other random occasions when a rock needs shattering or pushing. She is a little more durable as well, though not invulnerable, but Velvet could survive a long drop with minimal damage and take a beating with the best of them. Especially if she should use her transformed left arm to accomplish various feats.

Her arm isn't the only thing odd about her, either. She is one of the few daemons known as a therion and possesses the ability to consume other beings via her left arm - not just dameons, but malak and humans as well. By devouring her opponents, Velvet absorbs their power and becomes stronger. When she absorbed her first malak, Seres, she also saw flashes of Seres' memories. It should also be noted that when Velvet devours a daemon, they are transformed back into their human form, though they typically also tend to be dead at that point so... whoops. Because she's a daemon, Velvet actually can't feel cold, so she could walk around in a blizzard wearing nothing at all if she so desired. It also has an effect on her taste buds as well, she can eat all the human food she wants, but the only thing she ever tastes is blood. Usually she gets around this problem by having Laphicet taste her food.

There is at least one thing she can't consume, and that's those who use the armatus ability, which is why it does later become a form the Shepherds use in order to battle future Lords of Calamity. She has also shown that if she does devour humans or malak their souls can remain inside of her for a time. Velvet has shown that she can communicate with these souls and sense whether they're still in her or not. With humans, she can also release them, and does this to use four exorcists to revive the four Empyrean (malak/seraph "gods"). No one survives if she feeds on their malevolence - they simply just die, and she becomes stronger for it.

Limitations: She will not consume any other PCs without talking to other muns first, and I'm okay putting a cooldown on people vore. Since there are no daemons or other such negative malevolence for her to feed on (at this time), I will say that regular food does help - but she never truly feels completely full.

Lord of Calamity:

This title is given to daemons who can output so much malevolence that they turn others around them into daemons as well. She can do this with animals, humans, and malaks alike - so long as they aren't armatized. Even malaks who are tied to something or someone pure, there is a chance they could turn.

Limitations: She won't be able to turn humans into daemons except on rare moments of intense malevolence, but animals will be about the same - as it would be a good opportunity to feed the therion. It won't be happening all of the time, and she'd probably eat it right away anyway. Could be interesting to make it into a bigger plot at some point down the line.

ARMADA SELECTION

Corsair is the perfect fit for Velvet. Canonly, she already spends her time with pirates and has tendencies towards doing what is best for herself, even if it puts her against the whole world. Velvet isn't afraid to strike down anyone that might stand in her way, and she often butts heads with those who are more morally-aligned. Even though her interest in collecting treasure and relics is mild compared to some others, she's still willing to partake in such in a thing - especially if an item might bring her closer to her goal of getting home to exact her revenge. Velvet is definitely here for some of the more unsavory types of piratery. She'd likely look into starting her own crew with Eizen, since they are all about being in control.

Questions: Being a therion doesn't count as magic and needing a tattoo, right?
